Hemp Questions

Can I cook with Manitoba Harvest hemp products?

Hemp Seed Oil is sensitive to heat and rather than frying or cooking with it, we recommend using it to finish dishes like pasta, salads, and to incorporate into dips and sauces. Our Hemp Hearts are safe to bake at 300 F or higher because the omegas are protected within the structure of the hemp heart. Hemp Hearts are also great for topping on smoothies, salads, and oatmeal too. Check out our recipes for more inspiration!

Where is your hemp grown?

We have been sourcing our hemp from Canadian farmers for more than 20 years and we will continue to partner with them for our line of hemp food products.

How much hemp is too much in a day?

Quantity is one of the pillars of nutrition for optimal health. (The other pillars being Quality, Nutrient Balance, and Frequency). For optimal energy and to avoid weight gain as well as overwhelming the digestive system, it’s best to consume appropriate portions at each eating occasion. Eating hemp foods at every single eating occasion in a day is A-Okay, just account for them as your protein and healthy fat sources.

I thought Omega 6s are bad for you?

Omega 6s often get a bad rep. Some Omega 6s, like GLA, play a crucial role in overall health. A general rule of thumb is to avoid all highly processed fats.

When it comes to our bodies we need a mix or balance of essential fatty acids (EFAs). It is best to consume foods that have naturally balanced omegas. Hemp has an Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio of 3:1. Plus, the omegas in hemp are unrefined and easily digestible.

For more information about “good” and “bad” Omega 6s or the balance of omegas, contact your health care professional.

What are the differences between hemp and marijuana?

How do hemp foods compare to other seeds, plant-based proteins, or oils?

Generally speaking, hemp foods offer more protein and a broader spectrum of omegas than flax, chia, or peas.

What about pets – are hemp foods safe for animals?

Manitoba Harvest is not an animal food manufacturer so we recommend contacting your trusted animal care professional for specific advice. However, we receive countless testimonials from customers about the observed benefits of adding hemp foods (hemp oil in particular) to their pets’ diet.

Just like with humans, be conscious of your pet’s weight when determining how much hemp oil to add to your pet’s food. A good parameter for oil – 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight

Are hemp foods safe for children?

What is the difference between a hemp seed and a hemp heart?

Hemp seeds are the seed of the Cannabis Sativa plant. They have a hard, nut-like exterior and soft chewy inside. Think of a hard shelled sunflower seed.

Hemp hearts are hulled hemp seeds. They are the soft, chewy center inside the shell of the hemp seed. Think of the tasty, soft inside of a sunflower seed that you eat. Hemp hearts have a subtle nutty flavor and can be consumed raw. You can also cook with them, making them a great pantry staple. Hemp hearts are versatile and fun to experiment with – add them to smoothies, desserts, and more!

Do Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts need to be refrigerated?

To extend the freshness of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts, it is recommended to store products in the fridge once opened.

Where can I buy hemp hearts?

You can buy them right here! You can order organic or natural Hemp Hearts on ManitobaHarvest.ca or you can visit any of your favorite stores or online retailers. In-store you can usually find Hemp Hearts in the baking aisle, near the cereal/granola, or by fresh produce.

I’ve noticed sometimes my Hemp Protein Powders are slightly different shades each time I buy them. Why is this?

Hemp foods are a natural, non-GMO product. There will be slight variations in colour depending on what hemp seed variety was grown, the soil, the region, and growing season. The color difference between product lots has nothing to do with quality – we run small batch testing and every single product goes through a minimum of 34 tests from farm gate to store shelf.

Can Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss cartons be recycled?

Yes, the cartons are recyclable, however, recycling facilities vary by region. Visit https://www.recyclecartons.com/ to search your area for recycling options.

Why is Manitoba Harvest CBD not sold in Canada?

In Canada, CBD is regulated as cannabis, where in the United States, CBD supplements are regulated as an industrial hemp product via the 2018 Farm Bill. Industrial hemp is defined as any hemp plant that contains less than 0.3% THC. In Canada, it does not matter whether CBD is derived from industrial hemp or cannabis plants, and CBD products are therefore subjected to the Canadian cannabis regulation regime. Manitoba Harvest’s US hemp-derived CBD products are THC-free (less than 0.01% THC), but we are unable to sell them in Canada because US industrial hemp is not regulated through the Canadian cannabis licensing regime. We do sell our complete line of Hemp Foods products in Canada, which you can purchase directly from our website or at a store near you using our local Store Locator.
